Keep the Air in Your Home Clean This Holiday Season With These Air Purifying Plants

The holiday season is upon us—and for many homeowners, that means cooking up holiday meals and treats for their friends, families, and loved ones. And while holiday cooking and baking can certainly feel festive and fun, too much indoor cooking can actually cause air pollution in your home.

Luckily, there’s a way to keep the air in your home clean without sacrificing your holiday cookie baking tradition—and that’s plants.

A recent article from realtor.com outlined the best air-purifying plants to add to your home this holiday season, including:

  • Snake plants. Unlike most air-purifying plants, which go through the air purification process during the day, snake plants remove toxins from the air at night (and after dinner!)—making them a great air-purifying plant addition to your home.
  • English ivy. English ivy removes formaldehyde from the air—which is not only present in many common household materials, but is also released during the cooking process. Plus, they’re incredibly easy to grow—so even if you have a less-than-green thumb, you can enjoy this plant’s air purifying benefits.
  • Spider plants. Spider plants are great at removing toxins from the air (specifically benzene and formaldehyde), making them a great addition to your kitchen. These plants also grow starter plants known as “spiderettes”—which you can snip off, put in a vase to root, and use to grow additional plants to purify the air in other rooms in your home.
